Speechify: review, test, pricing and alternatives (2026)
Listen to any text with strikingly natural AI voices.
Speechify — Listen to any text with strikingly natural AI voices. Heavy readers, students and professionals who want to consume their documents as audio, anywhere. Editorial rating: 4/5 (Recommended).
What is Speechify?
Speechify doesn't start from creation but from consumption: its original obsession is to let you 'read with your ears'. Born around accessibility — its founder, who is dyslexic, wanted to consume his reading as audio — the tool turns articles, PDFs, emails, documents and web pages into speech you listen to anywhere, at accelerated speed. For a heavy reader, a revising student or someone with dyslexia, it's a genuine daily game-changer.
Its reach is its strength: browser extensions, mobile apps, a desktop reader — Speechify is wherever you already read. And it has since added a voice-over studio (Speechify Studio) to generate narration for videos and podcasts, widening its scope beyond plain reading.
Worth noting: on high-end creative voice-over, realism stays below ElevenLabs, and the video studio is less complete than dedicated tools'; premium voices, cloning and the highest speeds require a subscription. But for its primary use — consuming reading as audio, anywhere, all the time — few tools are this effective.
